His Followers Are Asked

Remember the testimony of Christ. Remember his noble sacrifice, his noble confession. We, his followers are asked to live without sin, without accusation of sin. We are to wait for his return, for the return of Jesus Christ.

Too much of modern life remains connected to an appearance, remains connected to the visible. The importance of substance lessens, loses importance. Too much of modern life suggests a disconnect from true deference to God, from true reverence to God. Too much of modern life suggests that the history of Jesus Christ before Pontius Pilate is just another story from antiquity, another story of iniquity.

Between popular culture angst, anxiety, and greed God is marginalized.

The request to be true followers, to be true followers competes with surviving, with prospering within the modern world. Luxury poses as necessity in many conversations, in many hearts, in many lives.

The Beatitudes become merely beautiful poetry, pretty thoughts. The commandments lose their force, their power to influence, to direct human behavior, Christian behavior and thought. Modernity, contemporary thought reduces, redefines acceptable behavior, acceptable thoughts, acceptable actions with an eye toward ease of use, ease of control, loss of responsibility, loss of morality.

Popular culture and the media marginalizes morality.

Look at all the spectacles around. Look at the magazines, newspapers, television programs, movies. Look at them and pray. Listen to yourself think, listen to strangers talk, listen to friends talk, listen to family talk. Listen for signs of goodness, holiness, kindness. Listen for signs of love. Learn about God’s beauty, God’s goodness, God’s truth.

As Christians we are asked to always honor and love God, to show reverence to God’s eternal power.

Complete dedication to God, complete reverence to God leads each true believer, each true follower to an awareness of God’s grace, power, and majesty. Through faith that continues to grow, continues to nurture, continues to remind us that Jesus is coming, is returning. Faith prepares us for the revelation, prepares us to see the invisible God.
